always redoing...

As far back as I can remember I have been trying to change space. I started out by trying to move the walls in my parents small Chicago apartment. I was about six and would lean up against walls and push with all my strength, thinking I could move them. Since that didn't work, I started dragging their furniture around till it "made sense" for me. Well, not much has changed. I still drag furniture around and now I have figured out how to actually move a wall. The only difference is that I get paid to do it....I still move the furniture, change the wall color and all the other stuff that goes with that in my own home on a constant basis.

Ever since I did a kitchen renovation in my own home over the Christmas Holiday '07, people have been asking for pics of the new kitchen and of the home. My home is essentially my test lab. I never try anything in a client's home that I haven't tried in mine, which means my space is always changing. The kitchen was all about finding a way to do it in a fairly modest way that used inexpensive materials (IKEA cabinets), classic elements (white carrera marble), eco-friendly products (cork flooring), and a bit or personality (stove, cabinet and vintage stools). Above are some random pics (kitchen) taken from my cell phone of a few angles, before & after (sorry for the poor quality).

I "re-arranged the furniture" (as we called it) in my parents house too as a kid!

I love the ecclectic look of your kitchen. Too much modern OR vintage isn't that interesting. Mixing modern cabinetry with a vintage china hutch and the retro subway tile and the classic marble makes the space more interesting. Your eye wants to travel around and notice the blend of periods, textures, and colors. Great job!

Are those drawers on the top of the china cabinet? I love that color wood, Looks nice. My husband gets mad at me as much as I change things around... lol As soon as he gets used to something I go and flip it upside down... haha so to speak.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that has always moved and rearranged thier parents house growing up. I even desined my own clothes by cutting and sewing different peices from different clothes together, but then again it WAS the 80's so anything went... haha

Yes, those are drawers. The piece was a great find. All I had to do was change out the hardware. Stay creative and keep rearranging the furniture.

Love the kitchen, looks like it's been there forever but meticulously maintained!I never thought of subway tile as retro?! I think of it more as clean and classic. I am considering it for my new kitchen so it will never seem trendy like some of the glass will.
