big hair, big dreams, small town...

THE AQUA-NET DIARIES will be my friend Jennifer's fourth book.

It will be published by Simon Spotlight Entertainment in September 2009.

The book started out as an attempt at telling the history of high school in general--but it quickly evolved into tales of her own crazy high school adventures at the enormous lone high school in Jennifer's small Indiana town.

Jennifer says, "It's easily the scariest, most daunting thing I've ever written so far!"

For a brief glimpse into what's gone into the writing of the book (The research!  The reunions with friends!  The big hair!  The blue eyeshadow!), check out the BOOK BLOG...

You can also PRE-ORDER your COPY!

-Enjoy,

It looks like a good read and for better or worse, reminds me of my high school years. Oh, what were we thinking?

Excellent information. Thank you. By the way, you are THE best thing on HGTV and you have beautiful eyes.

Oh, I think this book may be a bit too traumatic (HA)! I am already reliving my high school years just after reading her blog.

On a completely different note, I am a HUGE fan and I think that you are one of the most genuine people on TV and also incredibly talented.

Hope you enjoy your Holidays!

That photo of your friend is just priceless. It just doesn't seem like it could be real, but I know it is since I have one, almost just like it! AAAHHHH! What were we all thinking in high school?

If the book is 1/2 as good as her blog on it, then it will be a huge hit - what a great writer she is - pulls you in - I can't wait to hear what she and her friends where up to.

Very interesting. I have actually read Ms. Niven's previous books and this seems like a departure for her, but an interesting and entertaining one. I am looking forward to it. I have really enjoyed her previous books.

Also, I have been a fan of yours for quite a few years. I saw you on your first show, MERGE. I actually worked on that show (p.a.) and remember thinking, this guy is special!
I am not surprised by your success. You still have the same enthusiasm and genuineness you had back in the day. Your talent remains the same, if not more so. I hope you are as happy as you seem! By the way, your success agrees with you. You look HOT!

I think that Angelo is probably one of the most genuine TV people I have ever met. I live in L.A. and he comes into the establishment where I work (I am not going to mention it since he doesn't know who this is and what place I'm talking about). I have seen him interact with customers that recognize him, the staff and with myself in the most amazing way. When he talk to you, he is talking to you and not scanning the room. He looks you right in the eyes and makes you genuinely feel like you're the most important person in that moment. No pretense. No attitude. Just an incredibly warm, genuine person--AND he's beautiful.

We see all kinds of celebrities in here on a daily basis and let me tell you, that is not always the case. He is a fine exception to the rule.

I too have read Jennifer's other books and I am thrilled to see that two of my favorite people are friends. I must have really good taste. It makes sense though. You're both talented and lovely.

I read the blog about her new book and it seems like something I would definitely be into. Looking forward to it!

Happy Holidays!

Loved her previous books and what a THRILL to find out about the two of you knowing each other. How long have you been friends? Have you ever worked on anything together?

In addition to being a developing "Design Geek," what were you like in high school? Shy? Popular? Athletic?
How have you most changed from HS?

Any pics from back then to share with us *please*?

Sorry for the double post!

I am kinda "Jessie come lately" to the World of Surmelis, so I am discovering your career backwards (and loving every moment!). My TIVO is 70+% full of 24-HR Design. Anyway, loved your look with the 'soul patch'. Think you might consider rockin' it again? Looked really, really cool!

Hi Jessie,

Thanks for watching the show!

I usually do wear the facial hair when we're not shooting. Since sometimes we have to go back to reshoot a segment after the reveal (like a me talking to camera and describing something) it's better for continuity if I just an always clean shaven.
