in praise of stuff...

...AND YSL!

This month's (January) VANITY FAIR (the one with Tina Fey on the cover) has an article on YSL and his incredibly amazing collection of art & objects.  It took decades to build and it is being auctioned off in February by Christie's in Paris.

The collection is insane and so massive, that wall space in his home was scarce enough for a crisp Degas pastel to be hung in the water closet.

The man had dazzling taste and life.

THIS was a great issue. I love that magazine. Tina Fey is awesome and the article on YSL was very interesting. Now if only I had the funds to go to that auction.

Dear Mr. Surmelis,
I saw your Holiday Special last night and I have to say that I was very impressed with your home, you and the fact that you are on HGTV. You are not rehearsed, mechanical or the typical talking head, which is a very good thing. Maybe you can tell us how that happened. Did you choose to do this line of work on TV or was it chance? Did you choose HGTV over other networks or once again, was it chance or did they choose you and why HG? Do you ever do seminars?

I have read the article in Vanity Fair and it is quite wonderful. His collection is enviable.

Great story in VF. Always great stories in there. It's only a matter of time before we're reading about you. Nice cookie part too. Loved it. Great home!

I would have never done the grout so large, but I have to say when I saw the finished product, I loved it! It looks great as does the room. I think you are quite talented.

An amazing collection from an incredible designer. I loved the article. Would you even do a Vanity Fair article like that? Would you be OK with that much "in your personal business" type of article?

Simply decadently gorgeous!

Could you be any cuter? Maybe handsome might be more appropriate. I know you're talented, but you're my dream guy. Sorry for the innapropriateness (sp).

Very interesting article and man. Now if only I could afford something of his. I can't even get myself to paris for the auction. That would be thrilling enough!
