atomic retro...

photos: swell-space/iphone

Here's the thing about design, IT'S PERSONAL...ALWAYS.

Nothing is more personal to Lou & Jordana than their new atomic retro kitchen.  They were INCREDIBLE to work with, they had a smile on their face the whole time during the long 4 week demo, installation & makeover process!

They knew what they wanted and what they didn't.  Lou & Jordana didn't want the average kitchen.  They wanted one that was all about the way they want to live in their home and also one that was their personal style.

We gave them that and more.

Color, fun, and function were taken to the extreme and their unbelievable reaction was well worth the incredible amount of work that went into this unbelievably GINORMOUS renovation!

Here are Lou & Jordana's inspirations:

-STEPHANIE has an open kitchen and even though we couldn't open Lou & Jordana's kitchen all the way due to structural issues, we could create a more open feel to make their small kitchen feel bigger and more open to their living & dining room.

-DIANE & RICHARD have a B&W floor tile motif that is quite nostalgic for Lou & Jordana and they wanted to find a way to bring that look into their own kitchen.  It's a classic look that's always in style.

-KAT & JIMMY have a booth/seating area that is beyond groovy and Lou & Jordana were on the right track already and just wanted to make it more of a "WOW" focal point and their inspiration does the trick.

Thank you all for your incredibly inspirational kitchens and for being so accommodating!

This was a 4-week constructionFEST!  My team outdid themselves when it came to trying to get this together.  Remodeling a kitchen from the ground up is a HUGE endeavor that takes plenty of planning and things will still go wrong.  Our stove did not get delivered until just a few minutes before we were ready to reveal the room.  The sweat equity that went into this remodel is priceless.

MANY THANK YOUS to: Ruth, Jared, Danny, Rupert, Jason, Jen, Kris, Ron, Jacob, Pahl & Ivana for making more miracles possible on this makeover than I could EVER describe.

OMG! OMG! OMG! I LOVE this kitchen. Seriously amazing. This is the kitchen I have dreamt of my whole adult life, down to the orange tiles! You are a magician-god!!!!

This kitchen was not my style, but I have to say that what you did was like a masterpiece. You gave Jordana & Lou more than they knew that they wanted. I have to admire your creativity and vision, even more so since you seem to do something completely different each time. I love Candace Olsen. LOVE HER, but she gives people 'Candace Style," which is cool since her clients hire her for that specific style. You handle every style and every different type of need from each client in an unbelievable way each time. I NEVER see it coming-NEVER! I am always impressed and awed. As a professional designer myself (my "look" is traditional. That's my specialty) I congratulate you for being so flexible.

I kept waiting for you to blog about this! I'm on the East Coast so I knew I'd have to wait a bit. WOW! WOW! Angelo, I don't know what to say since I think Lauren kind of did for me. This is NOT my style at all. I am very conservative and really safe, especially in kitchen design, but you did an outstanding job with. I too am impressed with your constant way of surprising me. Kudos and add me to your lifetime fan list.

I have to say, we watched this and were not sure where it was going. We watch you all the time and are always pleasantly surprised at the end of how you pull it together and my husband and I say every time, "we will never doubt him again." Tonight we fell back into our old ways, we doubted. Then, we saw the reveal and our jaws dropped to the floor!!!! Oh Angelo. This makeover was so much more than stunning. This is not our type of style but we could love having this kitchen. You have performed the ultimate design miracle. We promise you that no matter what, we are through being a doubting Thomas!

Much respect.

So fun, colorful and an overall stunning kitchen. Even though I prefer a much more sedate look, I can't help but appreciate this look for Lou & Jordana. Wonderful work.

YOU make me happy and SO DOES that kitchen.

THIS was an incredible makeover that was original, and sooo personal for these homeowners. We have gone beige, stainless steel and granite crazy with no personal choices. It's time to break the mold and encourage people that want to stay and live in their homes to be unique, creative, personal and stylish!

You are one of the few TV design personalities that is shining the light on that!!!!

WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW! No really, WOW!
This is awe inspiringly gorgeous. I am the queen of beige. I like things as neutral as possible and this would normally throw me for a loop. I don't think I could do this in my home, but I have to tell you that when I saw the reveal and looked at your photos I would try to find a way to get over to Lou & Jordana's kitchen for coffee every day if I was a neighbor.

Excellent design work! You are by far my all time favorite TV design personality. I love your personality and your laugh and smile can light a blackout.

WOW! HOW LUCKY are Jordana & Lou? You've outdone yourself here. This is an amazing makeover. Your work is always so personal and specific. I think that's why the reveals are always so emotional. They are truly catered to the specific homeowners. YOU ROCK!!!

WOW! Not my personal style but I love it. Those cafe curtains are inspired as is the tile.

I DVRed this episode and just watched it this morning. I love your first line on this post "it's personal, always!" So very true! And even though I think this is one of the most hiddeous kitchens I've ever seen, you did a PHENOMENAL job from a design stand point. And the homeowners loved it, so that's all that matters.

Your blog friend with a really boring kitchen,
Michael :o)

OK I found this blog from the HGTV website and I'm a bit confused... what is the REAL color of the tiled wall? HGTV shows it red, but you have it orange here... I actually like the orange better (but before I saw it in this color, I liked the red - how odd is that!!!). Either way, I think you hit it out of the park!

Personal? Yes. I would not be able to live in a house with this kitchen. It is too much......
