leaving on a jet plane...

I'm off to D.C.

I will be back on Jan 21st with stories and maybe some new FLIP videos, if I can master the thing and improve my cinematography skills.

This for me is less about political affiliation and more about History. This country's history that is being made before our very eyes.  People of different faiths, colors, political views and ethnicities gathering together to celebrate something that is greater than all of us.  This is more than just about a new administration.  It is about what is possible.

My parents moved to this country from Greece (to Chicago) when I was about 7 because of what they thought was possible.  They wanted something good for themselves and their family. My Mom & Dad worked for my uncle's restaurant and learned to speak English on the job. They worked everyday and dreamt of owning their own home and giving me the chance for opportunity.  Both those dreams were accomplished and like most people, they were realized due to hard work and the belief in possibilities.

I believe in possibilities.  They drive me.  They inspire me & give me hope for the future and present.

I feel blessed to be able to go to D.C. and be with others that feel the same way regardless of our backgrounds or personal experiences.

I am inspired by the people I meet and the voices I hear telling their stories.  This election has encourage and energized many of us.

This is a challenging but incredibly exciting time.

Everyday is a chance to write your own history.  Everyday I see people being kind, caring, giving and hopeful.  I choose to focus on those moments and though I know that there is no such thing as a quick fix for anything in life, I do believe that we are in for a new set of possibilities.

Thank you to President Bush and his administration for your time and service and welcome President Obama and (new) First Family to your limitless possibilities!

Thanks for sharing your perspective. Can't wait to hear your report of Washington. I am so in awe of the courage and tenasity of people like your parents. Their stories are what make this country great!

Glad to hear you remember the Bushes, too. Whatever side of the aisle they come from, our leaders all go in with a true spirit of honor and efforts to keep our country safe and strong. They give up so much personally.

Go forth and enjoy history.

you said it perfectly! I know that you will have a great time - I can't wait to read all about it when you get back....wouldn't it be cool if you could design one of the rooms in the white house for the Obama's?

So excited that I came across your blog! I, too, moved to the states from Greece when I was 10 with my family for the same exact reasons your family made the move. For the opportunities and for a better life for the family that they successfully provided through very hard work. Always grateful and untiring... our greatest inspiration!

Have a wonderful trip and may inauguration day be the start of renewed hopes with the inspirations from the past.

I hope you are enjoying your time in DC. I happen to live about 45 minutes from DC. Unfortunately I will not be witnessing history in the flesh but will be tuned into CNN for coverage. And hopefully traffic will be kind to me in the morning as I make my way to work.
