7 things...

In my grandmother's yard in Athens. Greece.

A few blog entries ago, Sheila, one of the great bloggers in this Bloggerville asked for 7 things about me that you may not know or just little known facts.  I have complied, but I do it in good faith since I now turn the tables on you (yes, you too Sheila) and ask.
"what 7 things do we not know about you?"

Looking forward to seeing the results.

7 things:

1)  English is not my first language.  We spoke Greek when my parents and I moved to the States.  I was mortified that I couldn't speak the language and on my first day of kindergarten (I was 7 and looked like an alien compared to all the other 5 year olds) I threw up on my teacher's shoes upon meeting her.  I vowed to "fit in" and fervently asked for all the lesson plans of first grade when I was in kindergarten.  I finished them all before going to 1st and while there begged my teacher to get me the ones for 2nd.  I finished them within a month and skipped 2nd grade.  It's been downhill ever since.  I just wanted to "catch up."

2)  I am a sucker for a good cheeseburger & fries, a real ice cream chocolate or vanilla shake followed by a slice of yellow cake with chocolate frosting.

3)  I don't have a middle name.

4)  When I lived with my grandmother in Greece (my parents were working in Germany at the time) I ate a flower from her yard because I thought it was so amazing looking that if I ate it, it's powers of color & beauty would be a part of me.  I was 4 and I had an allergic reaction.
My tongue, mouth & lips swelled up to at least twice their normal size.
It also did not taste as good as it looked.

5)  I still feel like a failed architect.

6)  Talent, modesty & strength tempered with kind heartedness are sexy to me.  Great legs don't hurt the equation.

7)  I can't sing and have always dreamt of being a rock star.
NEEEEEVER gonna happen.

YOUR TURN...

Oh, Dearest Angelo! Thank you for doing this! It's wonderful to learn more things about our blogger buddies. You are one determined little one aren't you? I loved your first comment about speaking English. You're my kind of guy - I love my cheeseburgers and an extra thick chocolate shake is my fav food!
I can't believe you think of youself as a design failure. I know we all would differ with you there.

Okay, I'll tell you some things about me. I've played this tag a couple of times and my life in Blogland is almost an open book. LOL
1. I'm legally blind, but with contacts can see! Thank God!
2. I'm very short - 4' 11 1/2" tall - I hate this!
3. I was voted having the most beautiful eyes in high school - guess I'm not modest! lol This does mean alot to me since my eyes are so blind!
4. I have to have my Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper in the morning.
5. I don't or have never liked coffee.
6. Lived in Roswell, New Mexico for 10 years. Knew about the UFO thing, but the town was not crazy then - just a nice place to live and raise our children.
7. I wanted to be a Disc Jockey on the radio when I was growing up. I love old rock and roll music! I never realized you can't have a southern accent and be a successful DJ! lol
Okay, there's a few thingys about me.

Thank you again, Angelo, for being such a good sport! Love you more now that I know a bit more about you!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

I am pondering my 7 things. I will get back.

I have short legs.

so cool, and i love your food choices! you are funny.

p.s. the architect gig is a really tough one. i used to work for a major duo of architects in los angeles, and they were NIGHTMARE to deal with, as were their clients.

Hi Angelo...

Thank you for sharing the "7 little known facts" about you! These games are funny little "diddies" but you really can get to know a person by them...hehe!!!

I must admit that you brought a tear to my eye telling about your experience in kindergarten...not knowing English! I'm so sorry for your difficulties back then...but I really admire your ambition to learn!!! Of course, I totally believe that it's these kind of difficulties and our struggles to overcome that make us what we are!!!

Warmest wishes...
Chari

Hi Angelo, Thanks for playing along. I'm right with you on that cheeseburger thing. I think that it was sweet that you were raised by your Gramma. Like Shelia, we played this tag game quite a bit so our lives are an open book.

1. I hate wearing shoes, it's barefoot for me whenever possible.
2. It's potatoes - french fries - baked -mashed bring'em on.
3. I've been a Dental Assistant for TWENTY-FIVE years. Ugh! If you would have told me that 25 years ago - I would think that you were joking.
(Actually, it's a good career for a Mom. )
4. I've tried for 8 years to conceive my son! I wish that I could've had 8 babies!
5. I used to drive everywhere - but I tell you the last few years I'm such a chicken. Bridges over water, freeways, semi's all scare me. I avoid highways!
6. I love to cook and bake. Today Jacob and I made chocolate eclairs.
7 I'm addicted to blogging! (That's a given.)

Why don't you pop on over, Angelo. I'm celebrating my 100th post with a give-a-way! ~ Robyn

I loved your list!!! My first language is French spoke it and went to a French school until finally I switched up and went to an all English speaking high school!! I can't live without coffee to me it's the nectar of the Gods!! What's better than a cheeseburger and fries and a shake? I would never think of you as a failed anything!!! I had an online business that I lost a ton of money in and wish I hadn't but I don't regret the fun I had and the people I met during the time...my only regret in life is waiting until I was 42 to figure out what I really wanted in life...I wish I had been pointed in the right direction much sooner!! I have become a fabric and chair geek!!!(lol) Loved reading your replies!!! Hugs French;)

Oh I loved these 7 little glimpses into your life, and as a mother and grandmother - I was saddened by your struggles as a young boy. But, I bet you would say it made you the person you are. Please share with us one day how you became involved with HGTV. I would love to hear that story. Oh, and I would hardly consider you a failure!! Hugs, Barb

I am in love with you! Even more so now that I have an even better insight. I know you started out as an architect student and didn't finish, but my dear-you are beyond successful and not just because you're on TV. You are one of those examples of a successful human being, in part because of the way you've maneuvered life's challenges and personal failures. My sister had the extreme pleasure if first, observing you at the Vegas market and the briefly meeting you while you were bring whisked off to a meeting and she said, "This guy is purely and genuinely wonderful. His humble and movie star wattage charm hide the fact that he is a brilliant man.". She got all that by looking into your eyes! LOL!!! She's usually spot on. We are big fans in our family and pray for your continued success & happiness!!!

I have to give much thought to my seven things.

Intersting how your #6 describes how many of us see you! "Failed architect"? I don't think so!! :-)

Being a school teacher (and a pretty shy student growing up), I empathize with what you went through.
Thanks for sharing! And love your blog! Laura

This was GREAT! I have no idea where to even begin with my seven. They are either boring or not appropriate. LOL!

Love yours.

Hey Angelo, Great blog!
I was born in Athens Greece, and I came to America about 14 years ago. Only you understand what that means, even you were here much younger and you could learn much faster!
As you say, I love ANYTHING that has to do with design, and my thought is always in creation mode.
Please come and visit my blog, and if you like you can be my guest expert.
Opa!

Hi Angelo, The story about the flower was cute, not that your tounge swelled up, but the reason you ate the flower. Also, I think you possess all of the qualities that you mentioned you like in a person... (well, I've never seen your legs)... so I wouldn't know about that one. :D

Great fun! but a little scary because I am a fairly private person. Numbers 2,3 and 7 I have in common with you, particularly the yellow cake! #4 I was born on the 1st day of spring which is usually March 20, the last day of the last sign of the zodiac, but I am very much a Pisces. #5 I am technologically challenged and I almost never got this Blog off the ground! #6 like IMJABCOBSMOM, I am afraid of bridges and semi's. #7 I love garage sales - the best therapy in the world! Angelo, thanks for the fun! Angie

Thanks for sharing 7 things about you, Angelo :-)

I'm relatively new to your blog, so maybe posting 7 things about me would be a good way to introduce myself....

1. My favourite colour has always been purple.

2. I have two smart cars -- one of which has super-rare Numeric Blue panels :-)

3. I met hy husband at a bowling alley.

4. We recently adopted a Catahoula Leopard Dog -- to go along with our Black Lab & Siberian Husky :-)

5. I'm right-handed, but do lots of things left-handed (no wonder I'm always confused!!)

6. I love being on or around water -- swimming, kayaking, or just sitting on the wharf with my toes dangling in the water. I should have been a dolphin :-)

And I have to share this for #7...

7. I was the first Canadian homeowner on the Rate My Space TV show!! But you missed the video conference because you were in bed with a bad back, so we didn't actually meet :-( It was Tayo & Mark's lounge and you used the furniture arrangement in my living room as inspiration :-)

Oh you poor little guy! Even for those who know the language; the first day of school can be traumatic. You have come a verrrrry long way!

I myself was always 'the youngest in the class'. (Elementary, Middle, H.S. and University.) Needless to say my school days were challenging at times.

Regarding your dream of being a Rock Star; ME TOO but I wud also be quite content, to be a backup singer for Tina Turna. Even though I can carry a tune and have faithfully followed her career; for some reason she has never approached me. :) Looks like I'm not destined for the music industry either.

I realize I have only mentioned two things, but in fear that I will ramble on 'n on.....this is all I am going to divulge. (Aren't you glad!)

HAVE A GREAT WEEK Angelo! It was fun learning more about you. You really are such a Good Sport!
GOOD NIGHT!

Yay!
let's see:
1. I dislike my last name. its 12 letters long and impossible to pronounce. I've wanted to change it for a couple years now.
2. I hate mushrooms. I'm not a picky eater, but mushrooms are one food item I will not eat. it all goes back to an unfortunate family gathering, but that's a story for another day.
3. My hidden desire to be a stand-up comic of some sort will likely go hidden for a year or so longer.
4. I love small children and dogs in small doses. I'd be a good uncle, or dog-sitter, for that reason. I'm still unsure whether I'm fit to be a father
5. I can tell you, down to the penny, how much money I've spent this year
6. I can ride a unicycle. I'm very good at this. Yes, I did learn it with a circus. no, I can't juggle. no, I'm not a clown.
7. I know the alphabet backwards by heart and can say it in under 2 seconds.

I was SO flattered this morning when I saw you among my followers!!!

Ok, I love your seven, I probably have those same ones, but change architect for engineer, the flower for a grasshopper and Greek for Italian :)

Hope you are having a wonderful day ;)

Okay, so, like, I knew these things already. You need to post 7 more. ;) And no, I'M NOT PLAYING!
