My very first memory of a TV "how to" personality was Julia Child.
I was mesmerized by her.
She was exuberant in the kitchen and never fussy.
My parents cooked for a living and growing up in an all Greek home, being around food and cooking at all times felt comfortable. I was drawn to her cooking but even more so to the way she spoke to her audience and dealt with the process of preparing a meal. It was real and she made you feel like you could do it too.
Her personality and down to earth delivery masked her genius.
Years after my first glimpse of her on TV, I saw her at a book signing in Los Angeles. I watched from afar since it was during "paying my dues" lean days and couldn't afford her book.
She was gracious, charming and just like on TV, made it look easy.
