john varvatos...

john varvatos

I'm not really a fashion guy, but I do appreciate great clothes.

Comfortable, classic and a bit unique.  John Varvatos is that for me.  There's a fine line between something fresh and unique and trendy.  His stuff never crosses over into the trendy side.
He reinvents classic menswear and makes it feel new.

I'm a fan.

Of course you are a fan... He's a great designer - like you. I'm sure he is a fan of yours, too!

I love his stuff. You are so right. His clothes just feel and look right. You;re the perfect man for his design style. A JV suit would "suit you!" Dorky, I know. True though.

My husband is a huge fan of John Varvatos. It's funny because you are the only guy he will watch on HG. When I told him about this blog entry he said, of course he likes JV. The boy's got real style.

You're big in our home. My parents even think you;re groovy.

OMG! I am a GIANT fan of JV's and yours! This would be my dream. You show up at my door in a JV suit and remake my home. I make you dinner and open a bottle of red wine...

I can spot trendy fashions, but what makes trendy design? I mean, when you see a room what is it that makes it trendy, rather than unique and fresh. I ask because I have inherited several pieces from my grand parents that are very Mid-Century and I love them, but I don't use them because it seems so overdone right now. How can I use, for example, a dining set and a sofa without looking like what so many other people have right now?

Confusedly,
Jessie

You are the sexiest guy and if you showed up in his clothes, I don't know what I would do. My husband wear his clothes and every time I see him in a JV suit, I just melt. JV & AS, the perfect pairing. Happy Weekend.

He is one of my Son's favourite (American) Designers.

I've noticed that the Basketball shoe is very popular among many Performers; particularly that being musicians as John-V is himself. (The suede boot reminds me of what my generation called a 'Desert Boot'.) Like all footwear, I'm sure the engineering in design has come a long way.

I can relate as to why you like his clothing. It is very relaxed but has a 'classic' cutting edge.

Go forth and purchase!

Jessie,
Anything that has history to it and you like it (like your grandparents treasures) no matter how "in" they may be, are instantly the right way to go in any room. For me, the best way to use these pieces is to mix them with others that are less of that period. That works with any style. Mixing time periods & styles gives a room a fresh and interesting approach. One that is personal and less the look of a mid-century catalogue (or any other style can be substituted here).

Instinct and trial and error are huge when and very important when space planning. Each space is different and what may work in one person's home may seem odd in your due to the difference in something as simple and subtle as the type of natural light you get.

Just remember to have fun with it and to not get to stuck in the "rules."

Best,
Angelo
