episode 312...

End of an Era?
Kind of...

TV shows always come and go.

"Rate My Space" certainly is no exception. I've been doing the TV design thing for about 7 years now and every time a show ends it never gets easier to say good bye to the people you have grown to love. This was probably the toughest due to the simple fact that the group that came together everyday to work long hours, give their all and work tirelessly to give homeowner's the best experience possible, was a unique blend of people that really loved each other. Yes, there will be other projects for all of us, but I can honestly say that you all will never be replaced in my heart. Much love and respect to the most amazing team!

This was the last show of the last season of RMS and we were all proud and thrilled to have brought you as much inspiration, design and heart as we could. THANK YOU to all of the viewers, bloggers, RMS inspiration rooms and all the faithful posters on the "Rate My Space" web page that have been vocal, supportive, faithful, curious and incredibly passionate about design. You're my kind of people! I love that a dialogue of all things design, home improvement & lifestyle exists and that it's only getting louder. I have always believed and still do that your home, space, surroundings, whatever you want to call it, changes your life and the way you live it. All of you prove it everyday! THANK YOU for continuing the conversation.

I am off to other projects and will keep you posted as they are closer at hand and my talented team has also moved onto other opportunities as well. Who wouldn't want to work with them?

EPISDODE 312 (Cottage Style Patio)

MONA & ERIK have a HUUUUGE backyard and a definite style. The problem is that their style stops at the sliding glass doors leading outside and the outdoors are a bit overwhelming. Where do they start? Everywhere. They both knew what type of function they wanted and how they wanted it to look. Mona & Erik weren't exactly sure how to make that happen. They have done a gorgeous job filling in all the design blanks inside their home. Every room is perfectly designed to suit their style. Also, a big thank you to them for graciously opening up their home and sharing their snacks! You guys were awesome to work with. We had a great time shooting at your home.

Also, this was the longest set up for reveal in RMS history. Two very long days prior to reveal of planting, planting, and more planting. My team and I (especially Jen, Jason, Edgar, Sebastian & Jeremy) are probably still trying to scrub off potting soil. It was a lot of hard work but we kind of had a blast doing it. I laughed and ate so much it still hurts.

Thank you to Jen, Jason, Jared, Edgar & Sebastian for all their talents on one of the biggest RMS makeovers we ever took on!

INSPIRATIONS:

SIMONE & EDMUND have a spectacular outdoor living area that gives their backyard a finished feel with a cozy living, lounging and dining area. Mona & Erik would like to be able to create those types of living zones. They'd also like a pool, but seriously, we barely have 2 weeks people. Awesome job Simone & Edmund!

KEITH really made his outdoor space feel more enclosed and intimate with the use of water resistant outdoor fabrics. This is definitely something Mona & Erik want to take advantage of. It's a great way to make a large space feel more intimate and private. Keith, you nailed it!

PATTI took an empty piece of property and saw the potential of a lush backyard! HUGE transformation that made her outdoor area a truly soothing space. The addition of a focal water feature was key in Patti's transformation and I wanted to incorporate that for Mona & Erik. Patti, excellent work!

RESOURCES:

First, I have to personally thank LOWE'S for their incredible participation and generosity to each and everyone of these makeovers and on this one, they went above and beyond. They really outdid themselves this season with what was available for me to choose from when putting this backyard makeover together. It was so much fun. THANK YOU ALL!

It looked like you had an amazing time. NOW, RMS over?! What? It's the only show I can stomach, mostly because of you. Please keep us in the loop on future stuff. Can't wait for the new line. Soon, right? All the best to you and your whole very talented crew!

And,

WHAAAAAAAAAAAT? No more RMS? I don't understand this. I have a million questions, that you probably can't even answer. Thank you for your constant inspiration and uplifting attitude. You make home improvement TV watchable. Even my husband agrees. Can't wait to see what's next.

I'm a bit perplexed, is this the end for new RMS shows? I must admit that if that's true, it is just one more huge loss over the last 12 months. All my favorite shelter magazines, & now this! I have complete faith that we will be seeing your smiling face on our t.v. sets very soon. It is always such a pleasure to follow you on facebook as well. No I know enjoys food so much & stays so slim as you.
To future projects! Forever a fan,
Deb

Your show was the best show on HGTV as far as I'm concerned, although many came close.(How diplomatic of me) I never missed an episode thanks to DVR. Will be sorry to see it end.
PS...Was following your NY eating orgy via twitter. Yummy and so much fun. Good luck to you on your future projects.

There couldn't have been a "Rate My Space" show without you. Your talent is obvious. I am always blown away, but your heart, compassion, true desire to help people and all out joy for what you do is what made the show and every show you do! Congratulations on all your success and the success that will surely follow you next!

Patty said...

I am so sorry to hear this. I do hope you have awesome things lined up soon, and I hope they will be on a network I can get!! I'm so glad I found you on Twitter and your blog. At least I can keep up with what's going on with you. Please don't stop posting! Good luck with the furniture line. I have like zero decorating budget, but I'm still hoping I can get at least one chair. What I've seen is amazing!

Go Forth & Get on an even BIGGER show! Your talent in design and on camera dwarfs your competition! Congratulations on your new ventures.

I have no idea what to say to this. Is is because you're going to do another type of show? Is it because you're so busy with the new furniture stuff? I am stunned. I have been watching you for years and the idea of not having you on my TV with new shows is just making me a little depressed right now. How is this possible. Please don't tell us you're giving up on the TV thing. We need you, your creativity, your humor and most of all your beautiful smile & laughter in this crazy world.

caroline said...

Oh no! I'm so sorry, Angelo. I love RMS, and that last makeover you did was nothing short of spectacular. I wish my yard was 20 times bigger so I could do much the same thing. I really hope you'll be back on HGTV because you're talented and charming and fun to watch. All best!

Dave said...

DITTO to what everyone above has said and more! You are truly an amazing designer to watch. I always thought that the formats that are available were not enough to showcase your talent. I look forward to seeing your next move. You are inspiring and inspired.

Well, this is troubling news. What home improvement shows will I watch now? I guess I can view the reruns and just wait for your next TV gig. Congratulations on all your success and I anxiously await your next TV chapter. Can't wait for the furniture line.

Angelo, You have been such an inspiration me. You're an incredibly talented and generous person. You're way of being is an example for all of us. HGTV is losing it's biggest and brightest star! But, just like a great rennovation...change can be so wonderful! I can't wait to see what you do next. I'll for sure be watching.

Angelo, you are my favorite designer! Your talent is more than a gift, it is your essence and being. Loved this show and can't wait to see your next project! Hopefully you are not leaving us. Are you available for private design and/or "Dear Angelo" ;-) ? Wishing you joy and happiness in your new adventures.

Cari said...

What? Say What? Are you leaving HGTV? Are you just going onto a different show? What is going on right now?! Too much disruption. I love you and you are the one bright shining and creative talent on there. You have NO IDEA what a constant inspiration you are to me and my friends. I got into design because of you. I'm hoping this is just a transition to something else, right? Love your work, style, humor, talent and mind!

Terri said...

You are the only person I watch on a consistent basis for not only your incredible design mind, but for who you are! Keep reaching.

Denise said...

You and your creative mind have thrilled me for years. I look forward to whatever it is you are off to do next in the world of TV!

Your new line is SPECTACULAR!

I am sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, in my neck of the Canadian woods, we did not get this show. However, I have seen you on your other shows, and have enjoyed the ease with which you draw the viewers in. Good luck with your future projects, and I look forward to seeing you back on the HGTV (Or TLC) screen as soon as possible.

Cheers,
Linda

No matter what network you're on, I'm THERE!~

STK said...

I don't get the reasoning behind the show going away. It is a unique, entertaining and informative take on a makeover show. Huh? I guess the same old tired formats work better? Either way, you;re a bright spot no matter what show you do where.

Patricia Wagner said...

Congratulations on your new venture. Can't wait to hear all about it.

Tess said...

So much to say, but I will keep it short and sweet. You are a joy to watch and I eagerly await your new TV project so I can continue to lean, be inspired and entertained by your creative genius. Congrats!

I am soooooooooo upset to hear RMS will no longer be on. I was just ready to submit my photos. (seriously yes, I was!!)
I will not only miss RMS but you too. I've watched you on HGTV and when you were on Clean Sweep too!Keep us posted as to where you will be next!!
Best wishes and good luck wherever you may be.

I feel like I have nothing new to add to this conversation. It's all been said beautifully. You are more talented than I could ever tell you and it goes way beyond just design. Your TV presence is one of the best out there including the major networks. I know we;ll see you in something else. Look forward to continuing to follow your career.

Lise said...

HUH? I did not see that one coming. Are you sure? Of course you're sure, but huh? I love your show and wish you all the best with your new ventures. I'm sure there's a good reason for this or it's just the nature of the TV world.

Michelle said...

You inspired and motivated me and I'm sure you will continue to do so in everything you do.

Bromeliad said...

Sorry about your show. It was the only decorating show my husband could stand to watch. :)

Also appreciated the detailed sourcing for each show and how much a project cost.

Em. said...

One of the best makeovers and seriously the stupidest thing I have heard-they are taking RMS off the air?! Are you leaving the network? GOD, I hope it's because you are going to be a "rock star" on some other network. You make home improvement TV bearable. PLEASE keep us posted.

will you stop waxing your fingers now that this show is going off? i look forward to yuor next show.

I am so sad that Rate My Space is ending. I love this incredible show and it is the best HGTV show that has aired!

Anonymous said...

Best of luck in your next venture in life.

When they bounce a show from time slot to time slot it's always a forecast of cancellation. I'm sorry that they didn't keep it on the air longer.

Good luck Angelo.

Lori said...

It really is shame. I know you will go off to do other things and I don't know if it was your decision to walk away from the show or if HGTV canceled this fine show in order to bring us another lame Design Star show, who watches those? Either way, I wish you the best. Let us know where you will be next.

imjacobsmom said...

Sorry for you Angelo, but I hope this means that our beloved RMS website will go back to normal. They tweaked it so much that it's just not the same. Good Luck to you, and I'll look for your furniture at Costco. ~ Robyn

I know that you will wind up on another show. That is not what is upsetting. You are a rare breed, a designer who is talented, gets his audience and is actually a TV personality as well. THAT, is a very rare individual. What is upsetting is what is left behind. I will not say how I really feel about some other programming since I feel it may be in bad taste. I will just say, please let us know where you wind up because this viewer would like to follow. Much more success! Murphy.

S. said...

I will never understand TV programming and I used to work in TV! LOL! I KNOW you will land bigger & better. Mediocrity and short term goal decisions don't last, but talent and personality do and you have enough of both to go on for decades. Congrats on your new ventures!
