yard work...

before & afters

The past 2 days I have been working in my VERY much neglected back yard.

When I bought my house, about 7 years ago, there was a piece of land but not a place to land. I spent the next few years making the back/side area a bit more of the way I wanted to live.  I wanted to have an outdoor living and dining area as well as a place to lounge.  I wanted the yard to feel bigger-Not manicured, but a bit old and grown in.  A little rambling but with some order. Living in Southern California gave me the opportunity to be able to fulfill that dream within this limited space.

Since the home is only appox 1,200 sf, the outdoor spaces were incredibly important.  It was truly a labor of love and a definite commitment.  I didn't want to hire someone else to give me a version of what was in my head.  Plus I wanted to get my hands dirty.  I'm not good with telling someone else what to do and then just stand by and watch.

This project was a labor of love, personal sheer force of will, lots of blisters, aching backs and a wonderful feeling of accomplishment.  It' still a work in progress.  I look at it and think, "Now if I could only...."

I'm better at watching other people do it. Nicely done.

I remember the views of your outdoor space from the Christmas special last year, but I had NO IDEA of how it looked before you worked your magic. Amazing transformation. BTW, the fact that you did it all yourself makes it that much more impressive!

The space looks warm, cozy and inviting - an urban oasis. Perfection!

Jessie

PS. Do your neighbors ever stop by to get design tips from you?

Angelo ~ Great transformation! I have been (and will today also) be weeding, moving, planting as we are getting ready to list our home. Curb appeal, right? : )

Well, my first thought was - I bet your neighbors were happy - but really Angelo, you've accomplished just what you were after and it turned out beautifully. ~ Robyn

Angelo, to begin I'm sorry to hear about the distribution delay of your furniture line. It must be very disappointing.

Love your outdoor retreat!

I envy those who do not have to contend with four distinct Seasons. When living in the Great White North it is always a race against time. You dare not blink or you may just miss Summer. :)

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! -Brenda-

OMG! Just drop me off in your back yard. I could live there. You are an amazing man and for all your talents, you remain humbly of this earth. Is it tough pretending to be mortal? Have a great weekend!

STOP IT! WOW! This is incredible. How you even had the vision to see this and then took on the task yourself is beyond me. I would have run far away or trusted somebody else to figure it out. Did you know that the before could be the after right away? Dear Lord that is one big job.

You must be one of the most self motivated men around. I would have just paid someone to do it all, if I could figure out where I wanted to go with the concept. You must never sleep and probably don't have a social life. You are destined for more greatness.

You have done a wonderful job creating a relaxing outdoor space. Looking at the before pictures it is hard to believe it is the same space. I could spend many evenings with a glass of wine & relaxing in that back yard!! Love the transformation, Nicole

WOW! I know it's been said before, but you are a one man dream. I don't watch HG or any other home improvement type show. I think they're all badly produced. I watch your because I think you are better than the genre you're in. Big Fan on you and your style.
