holiday surprise...

All photos: IMKstudio

Kind of a cool way to start a Holiday Weekend for all the people that worked UNBELIEVABLY hard to make this happen: We went live on COSTCO.com

I was surprised to hear it since I assumed it would be happening in AUG with the rest of the angelo:HOME launch. Cool way to start the weekend, with a little Holiday surprise.

These chairs are EXCLUSIVE to Costco members only. Totally exciting.
$579 for the pair and that INCLUDES shipping & handling.
Crazy Good.

This chair pairing will only be available at COSTCO.com and I designed them to fit everything from a small apartment to a seating area in a master bedroom or living room.

The cool thing here for me is, that I wanted to create pieces of furniture I have always wanted in my own home and couldn't afford when I was starting out. Seeing these actually out in the world is a bit surreal. Cool, but surreal.

The name of the color you ask? COFFEE of course. C'mon now, it was either that or "chocolate." I'm too predictable.

The rest of the line will be at OVERSTOCK on AUG 10 and NEW additional items will be at CSN later in August, but this is the start of the angelo:HOME line being rolled out.

I know we've (Tom, Maggie, Jen, Ed, Ken, Inta, Jill, Howard and SO Many others I know I'm missing here) all been working on this for what seems like a short lifetime and even though you know it's about to happen, it doesn't feel very real while you're in the planning/designing/launching phase.

Now, it feels a bit more real. Am I ready for it to be real? We'll find out. Ha.

Thank you all for the incredible support you've shown.
I really don't have the appropriate word to thank you properly other than, it's awesome awesomeness!

I hope you all have an amazing Holiday Weekend surrounded by people that you love, with plenty of delicious food and everything that makes you happy.

P.S. You can also watch a video of me talking about the chairs and how easy they are to put together---I'm totally geeking out here:

This is truly an incredible deal.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for not only being one of the best designers out there, for having the best TV personality, but for really thinking about your fans and the way we want to live and sometimes can;t afford to. This kind of stuff makes it possible. Thank you!

I want one or two.

2 for that price?! "Crazy Talk" for sure. Leave it to Costco. Love these chairs and love this deal! Congrats Angelo.

I do love these chairs. Like you said in your video, they are classic and modern.

Now that you are designing furniture, is there a possibility of designing linens and bedding in the future? I'd like to see something a little different than the hotel bedding that is all the rage right now. Perhaps linens with a bit of architectural interest. ;-)

angelo said...

Thank You Jeanette!

Yes, that is the goal--to move into bedding, accessories, lighting, dinnerware, rugs, etc...

I agree. Though I do love the look of "hotel bedding" I think there is enough of it out there. Something a bit more architectural even more prints along withe some great classic, simple looks would be ideal.

I am rolling out a couple of bedroom sets this fall/winter (beds, dressers, bedside tables, etc) so it's slowing coming together. There's more work involved than I could describe to get this stuff going, but totally worth it creatively.

Thank you for supporting the initial launch. I'm totally excited about it...

Can't wait to see your additional design ventures. It'll be really great to have angelo:HOME sheets and dinnerware (things that are my current budget!) when the time comes. Best of luck in all your pursuits!

Hope you're having a great 4th weekend!

Sorry for the double post!

Are you participating in the current Summer Showdown over on HGTV? I see you in a promo, but not in their line-up. Also, Guy Fieri? Really?

Jessie

angelo said...

Yes, I will be in the final Summer Showdown of the Season. Vern & I go up against each other in a kitchen competition (hence Guy Fieri) and it's listed on HGTV's Showdown page:

I will post about it on the day it airs so I don't give anything away.

Happy Holiday Weekend!

I hope you beat the pants off of Mr. Vern. Not to imply I want a pants-less Vern on my TV. haha! What was it like to work with Guy? I love his Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Is he so "hyped-up" in real-life? Will be on the lookout for this episode!

LOL! I think we both (Vern & I) keep our pants on in the Showdown. It all goes well and the homeowner's pick the winner and I think they chose wisely.....

And Guy was cool.

Well, I bought my pair of angelo:HOME Garbo chairs and I can't wait. They look gorgeous and a friend of mine said he saw them at a Costco near his home and they were truly beautiful. Are they in the stores as well?

I have the perfect spot for them. I just wish you were here so you could sign them for me as well. Love your shows and think you are the BEST at what you do. Love your laugh!

Ordered them and now I am planning my new living room set up. I think I may have to get one of our sofas as well to go with the chairs. I'm waiting to see the full line but I think it will either be the one you have in your blog header, I think it's kist so pretty, or a mossy green one I saw awhile back ago. We'll see. I feel like Christmas! I CAN'T WAIT to get the Garbos.

I wish you nothing but the best.

I will be ordering mine today! I just saw this post. I have been taking a bit of a "vacation" from my computer and what a lovely surprise. I wasn't expecting your stuff till August. This is a wonderful start and I can't wait to see more. I hope you spent the weekend celebrating. CONGRATS!

There are so many designs that would be great with this club chair. But somehow, you just don't think of Costco when you think of club chairs. I guess I'm going to have to check it out soon!

So, have you sold out yet?! You should. These chairs are the perfect fit. I have ordered mine and will report back when they arrive. I too need a sofa. I will patiently wait till next month. Garbo will be lonely.

Ohhhhhh.... I adore these! I think they're priced amazingly and beautiful to boot. It's too bad that I'm so broke I can't even afford the $579 or these would be in my living room!!!

So I'm curious about the fabric on these - Renu Leather is it? So besides price, what was the impetus for choosing something like this? (versus, say, a vinyl or something) How is it for durability... say like with kids and pets as far as spills, scratching, etc? I love leather but we have two kitty cats (and a kid!) and if I don't cover my beautiful mission leather chair, it has itty bitty back claw marks in it. :(

Hi Michelle,

Glad you like them. I understand about the budget. It's a tough time and we are doing everything we can to try to keep prices, on all pieces, as low as we possibly can.

There are a some upholstered furniture pieces coming next month with www.overstock.com & www.csn.com that will be starting at $249 and Costco and I will also work together in the future to bring you and everyone as much of a good deal as we can. I REALLY believe that EVERYONE should have great design in their home.

I grew up in a very blue collar working class family and my parents couldn't afford the furniture they wanted. I would be doing them and myself a huge disservice if I wasn't true to what I always believed, "You should be able to enjoy great style regardless of income."

The decision for choosing something like our ReNu leather was about a couple of things:

The look and feel. I wanted it to feel supple, soft and have a very classic appeal-ALSO, durability was VERY important and ReNu leather is essentially a recycled leather material that is put onto a microfiber base and it's unbelievably durable. More durable than just leather. It resists staining and almost impossible to scratch. I have to tell you, it's pretty groovy. The other component is price. I definitely want to give you as much style as possible but I don't want it to come at premium price tag.

Price factors in just as much as style and durability when choosing fabric or anything else for that matter.

There are so many options/choices out there when designing a line, but one step in a certain direction or another can throw off the "affordable style" mission statement that I believe in very passionately. Hope this helps.

All the best,
Angelo
