One of my favorite stories about Jennifer, and there are many, was when she was at a writer's conference somewhere in the frozen tundra--since her first and second book of non-fiction dealt with ice exploration, THE ICE MASTER & ADA BLACKJACK--Jennifer was the keynote speaker. She was surrounded by distinguished, older gentlemen. The kind with tweed jackets and elbow patches along with rimless eyeglasses. They were bright, well spoken and definitely "serious writers." They had spent their entire careers working on books, stories and articles about exploration. It was all thorough, well written stuff, but a bit on the dry side. Jennifer would breeze in with her perfectly done hair and highlights. She sported freshly applied lip gloss carried her pink purse and wore her sensibly, yet very stylish and perfectly form fitting outfit. Picture Elle Woods from "Legally Blonde."
Everyone assumed she was a romance novelist and told her as much---until she got up to speak and then shattered preconceived expectations.
The old adage, "you can't judge a book by it's cover" could not apply more than to my friend Jennifer Niven.
You've come a long way "little friend" and it's MORE than deserved.
I can't wait to see what you do next.
Her first work of fiction comes out Tuesday, July 28th.
I think you might enjoy it.
Jennifer, I couldn't be any prouder of all you have accomplished.
Let's get some snacks...
