go for unexpected...

If you have followed this blog at all, you know that I am a big fan of all kinds of tile. It's one of my favorite ways to add color, texture and sense of fun to any room. Sometimes we get lost in the idea that it's only for kitchens and baths. The unexpected in design can not only be unique but it can instantly create a fresh look at traditional style.

I love the way tile was used in one of the photos below as a wall in a corner office. It instantly takes a boxy corner of a room and gives interest and movement. You can achieve a similar effect with wallpaper as well as paint, but tile adds a whole new other layer design goodness.

The color feels more layered, there's the addition of possible texture or sheen in way that paper and paint can't copy as well as the design geek joy of the unexpected.

So, as you move forward in this new year and look around your home (that may still have Holiday decor looking less than festive) and you think about refreshing your rooms--BE BRAVE, BE BOLD, BE CREATIVE and allow yourself to look at your style in new ways.

Go Forth and Tile (or something else that feels new, exciting and a little unexpected)!

popham design specializes in a modern aesthetic with traditional Moroccan cement tiles. All their tiles are hand made by artisans in their Marrakech factory.

Ooh, I really like the laurel wreath-y tiles.

Many cool options, but I'm on a charcoal-and-white kick lately, so those are particularly fab. And I'm a big fan of leaves.

Love the look of tile too! My fav is the wreath tiles as well. There's something classic about them.
