locally made part 2...

Sometimes, you never know what or who you will run into.

A few months ago, some friends and I were at Los Angeles flea market. I was on the hunt for unique/fun gift-y things, that were locally made, for the new angelo:HOME store.

There was the usual lack of sleep and I was getting a bit tired of schlepping. It's kind of what I do, schlep, for a living but in the past few weeks I had been super power schlepping in anticipation of getting the store ready. I was coasting on only one cup of coffee, it was hot and my well rested, highly caffeinated, slow moving friends were starting to annoy me. Word to the wise, never go shopping with me. I am not a meanderer.

Anywhoo, I was just about to call it quits and head to the nearest espresso dispensary for another hit when one of my friends yelled, "Over here, check this out!" My initial thought was, please no--not another severed head figure. I don't care how old and "interesting" it is, I don't like it and I don't want to have to look at, OR have it look at me. I know that thing can see me!

So, I put on my best fake smile and was ready to nod approvingly and say, "Oh, wow. Sooo interesting, but I'm not sure it's the right tone for the store. Thank You for finding it, though!"

Turns out I wound up saying. "Wow, how cool AND handmade!"

Right there in my own back yard.

David, from Cheltenham-Road, makes wood block votive holders, great city home signs (we have Chicago, Los Angeles and New York at the store) along with awesome coasters and all sorts of of other nifty items. His stuff is all handmade, by him and it's charming AND affordable. Plus, he's a swell guy.

If you're in the Downtown L.A. Hood, come by and see us and David's groovy creations.
They are swell Holiday Gift items, OR visit his site: CHELTENHAM ROAD

Tell him I said "hi."

Go Forth and Design Fun!

Thank You Denise! Will keep that in mind. Right now, we're bursting at the seams with items and I just sourced some more SoCal local gift and accessories from a local, handmade gifts show last weekend. -A
