possibilities...

How do you view shopping for your home?

Is it fun?

I think it should be!

I grew up in a household that didn't have much to spend on furnishings. We did the best we could with hand me downs, thrift store finds and the "blow out" sales at the furniture stores. It was a mish-mash of things that we could afford, not necessarily what we wanted.

You all know that my design geek goal is to make style for our homes available and affordable to all. Well, the second part of that goal is to make it FUN!

I remember the anguish my parents would feel over looking for something that they could afford at a Home Store, and how all the "good stuff" was out of reach. I also know, from personal experience, that the places that I used loved going into as a young, starving art student in Chicago and New York for inspiration, have not always loved to see people like me (with limited to no disposable income) in their stores.

Since those days, the world of Home Shopping has become a whole lot better. There are plenty of affordable outlets to indulge our style obsession. Do we really need another one?

It's the same question I kept asking about designing furniture when I was originally approached to do so. I had, and still have very little desire or excitement to just design another chair. BUT, if there's a way to create something really special, affordable and fun, I'm in!

So, when the idea to actually do a physical, stand alone store came up---I knew that what I wanted was not just a store but a place to dream. The kind of place that I used to walk into all the time as a kid and fantasize of maybe being able to afford a set of coasters one day. It was more than just cool stuff, but it was theater and possibilities for my home.

That's what I want angelo:HOME to be, but attainable.

If you're in L.A., come by and see us. Say, "hi." You don't even have to shop, seriously. We're just happy to meet you and hear your design geek stories. Also, I think you'll love the building we are privileged to be in. It's one of my all time favorites.

Plus, there's plenty of great places to eat in the hood. Trust me, I know and we'll be happy to direct you to some good ones.

Go Forth and Design Fun!

finding a job you love and getting paid to do it is the best--and You make others happy to boot! someday I'll come visit your store in LA!

I have several friends who tell me that my home feels like a "home" to them--I don't do anything special. Just an eclectic mix of a few new pieces with mostly vintage, a few antiques, and lots of hand-me-down furniture. That's the way I grew up, too (but, I do a much better job decorating than my parents--please don't tell them). It's all in presentation and attitude. I learned from watching my favorite designers and you're my favorite. ;)
