The daylight this time of year always makes me want to brighten a room even more with color and pattern.
1. Small changes.
They are always a great way to brighten the mood of a room. Colorful accent pillows or lamps can make a huge difference in the way a room feels.
2. One of the surfaces that gets most overlooked are our floors.
Add color and pattern with the largest rug your budget can afford. It will help expand a small room and make an oversized space feel cozier and more pulled together. A colorful rug will also make all your neutral furniture choices, that may have felt a bit outdated look like new. Trust me...it's like painting a wall!
3. Don't be afraid of adding pattern in a larger furniture piece.
It will help energize a space. You can do it in a neutral color, if you're not ready to go full on brightness. You CAN go all out with smaller items like ottomans and cubes. They are an awesome way to really get daring with your color and pattern selection. I love the way a bold piece can really make a room feel personal and not too serious. Design should be fun. Play with your choices.
4. As you know, one of the things I geek out about is double duty furniture.
This TV console can also double as a dining room cabinet. Love that! Using colorful pieces like glasses, a vase and flea market decanters can instantly add seasonal color without breaking the budget.
5. The most overlooked room?
The bedroom. Show it some love by changing up the headboard or bedding. It can be an instant makeover for the room that often gets the most neglected. Our beds are the largest piece of furniture we have in there and the first thing we see when we enter. Make it something special. -angelo
