the daily tip: apartment edition...

You already know that I've spent most of my childhood and adult life living in small spaces. Often in apartments. I've been good with that. Real good. I've had some awesome apartments that no one wanted because they were in the "bad parts" of town.

One of my favorite things to do in design is to find ways to make the most of any space. When I couldn't paint or wallpaper...art and double stick tape became my best friend.

In one of my earliest Chicago apartment, where my friends refused to visit me due to the "questionable neighborhood---which now is dotted with million dollar studio condos, a Whole Foods, Pottery Barn, West Elm and small batch/artisanal beer and cheese shops, I covered a whole wall. Floor to ceiling--wall to wall, with pictures I had ripped out of magazines. It was my own personal funky wallpaper that was there to hide an even funkier looking wall.

Embrace the awkwardness of a space and make it your own.
